1. Educational Objectives
Serving the demands of sustainable utilization of biomaterials, the Wood Science and Engineering program of Nanjing Forestry University aims to develop well-rounded students with not only the expertise in biomaterials processing, but also high humanistic quality, sense of social responsibility and global perspective. The graduates are provided with solid theoretical foundation plus systematic knowledge of biomaterials properties and cutting-edge processing technologies so that they are competent to analyze and solve various engineering problems, and are ready to serve as academic researchers, product developers and production managers in the fields of large-scale production of wood or wood-based materials, mass customization of value-added wood or bamboo products, product trading as well as development and production of advanced wood processing machinery.
2. Learning Outcomes for Graduates
2.1 Knowledge Structure
(1) Secure fundamentals of history, culture, arts, natural science development history, economics and forestry.
(2) Grasp major-related scientific theories, macro and micro-structure of wood and bamboo, physical, chemical and mechanical properties of wood and bamboo, etc.
(3) Understand modern technologies for wood processing, wood-based composites production, wood and bamboo value-added products production, smart wood processing and process control equipment, as well as energy conservation and pollution reduction.
(4) Primarily grasp Chinese, and develop the ability of listening, speaking, reading and writing.
2.2 Ability Structure
(1) Have a clear idea about the main procedure and working pattern of wood processing project design. Be capable of present the proposals using engineering drawing and other proper ways.
(2) Have the ability to apply the fundamental theories, processing technologies and machinery technologies in engineering practice.
(3) Be able to search scientific literature properly, and write qualified scientific papers and engineering documents.
(4) Be innovative in scientific study, and be competent to lead a team and coordinate the work.
