International Forestry Students Teaching Plan

1. Educational Objectives

This major cultivates students with the knowledge and ability of forest biological cognition, forest resource cultivation, forestry resource management and development and utilization, as well as strong independent abilities in knowledge acquisition, investigation, research and decision-making, organization and management, information processing and innovation, and strong environmental and social adaptability. It also aims to cultivate students to get engaged in forest tree breeding, tree seedling production, forest construction, forest management, forest protection, development and utilization of forest resources, survey and planning of forest resources, construction and protection of urban and rural ecological environment, as well as high-quality and compound professional talents engaged in teaching and scientific research in higher and secondary forestry colleges and scientific research institutes.

2. Learning Outcomes for Graduates

2.1 Knowledge Structure

(1) Master basic theories and methods such as chemical analysis, survey, biological statistics, as well as basic theoretical knowledge of core specialties, such as forest biological cognition, meteorology and climatology, plant physiology, soil nutrition and fertilization, forest ecology and forest measurement.

(2) Get familiar with and master professional knowledge of tree breeding, tree seedling production, forest construction, forest management, forest protection, development and utilization of forest resources.

(3) Get familiar with systems, norms and professional codes related to forest production, management and protection of forest resources, construction and protection of urban and rural ecological environment.

2.2 Ability Structure

(1) Get basic abilities of forest biological recognition and forest germplasm resources identification etc., master the basic methods and skills of forest germplasm resources creation and propagation of varieties, and have the preliminary working ability of construction and management of high-quality seedling production base.

(2) Have the comprehensive abilities of construction, operation and management, as well as investigation, protection, development and utilization of forest resources and etc.

(3) Master the ability of operation and application of computers to comprehensively process text, image and graphics information in this specialty.

(4) Primarily grasp Chinese, and develop the ability of listening, speaking, reading and writing. Pass the Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi (HSK) or the Chinese Proficiency Test Level 4.

2.3 Quality Characteristics

(1) Have a sense of social responsibility and broad vision. Behave with integrity and dedication. Adopt pragmatic approach in the work and positive attitude toward life.

3. Core discipline

Disciplines of genetics and tree breeding, forest cultivation, forest management, forest protection, ecology, botany and soil science.

4. Core curriculum

Forest tree genetics and breeding, silviculture, forest management, forest entomology, forest pathology, botany, dendrology, plant physiology, soil science, forest ecology, non-timber forests, soil and water conservation, forest remote sensing, wood processing technology etc.

5. Main Practical Training Items

Visit and learning, investigation and production practice and etc. related to courses of soil science, botany, dendrology, surveying, forest ecology, forest tree genetics and breeding, forest management, forest remote sensing, silviculture, non-timber forests, meteorology and climatology, soil and water conservation etc.
